“Think of values as a lighthouse that maintains a clear and central position of visibility. Its main function is to direct the ship away from itself and toward intended destinations. The message is, ‘As you go where you are going, keep me in view, or risk becoming lost.’”H.B. Karp & Bob Abramms

Do your people have a clear and deep understanding of your company’s core ideology? That is, why you exist (purpose or mission), what you believe in (values), and where you want to go (vision)?

Whetstone’s Leadership CoreTM workshop focuses on the First Who, Then What principle, meaning you must first find out who is on board and what you stand for before figuring out where to go. The process will help identify your organizations’ DNA or unique differentiators, thereby enabling the leadership team to distill your company’s essential characteristics into a succinct core concept that will then guide all your efforts and strategic decisions.

How it works
A two-day, intensive workshop to investigate and uncover the driving forces behind your company. Getting your leadership team to all agree on these core principles is the first step. The real opportunity for success, however, lies in being able to consistently align your company’s inside-out vision with the outside-in voice of your customers.

The insight gained through the Leadership CoreTM exercise is extremely powerful as it leads directly into the Collaborative EdgeTM workshop – the first step in transforming yourself from a “product-centric” organization into a “customer-centric” company that truly understands the concept of value innovation.

  • First, we identify the core ideology or Hedgehog Concept*, i.e. what you are deeply passionate about, what you can be the best at and equally important, what you cannot be the best at, and finally what is the key performance indicator that drives your economic engine?
  • Next, we collectively validate your mission, vision and values to agree on a general strategic direction for the company. This helps to define the fundamental character of your organization – the attitude that distinguishes it from all others.
  • The net result is strategic alignment across your entire leadership team. You will leave armed with a detailed action plan on how to align the skills and strengths of your leaders with the shared vision and values of the company. This blueprint will outline the changes needed to instill a culture of discipline and strong leadership.

One of the secrets to achieving enduring greatness lies in your ability to create a social architecture capable of generating renewable sources of intellectual capital. Leadership is the key ingredient to realizing the full potential of your organization’s intellectual capital.

The Hedgehog Concept* focuses on simplifying a complex world into a single organizing idea that unifies and guides everything you do. It is a simple crystalline concept that flows from a deep understanding of the intersection between the following three circles:
